An Usborne Love Story

Usborne Books & More isn’t a new fad or hot new item for me. These books have been in my life since I was a pre-teen.

My mom hosted Usborne parties “way back” in the 90’s. Even though I was probably too old to think it was cool, I loved hunting for that little duck on all the pages of the Stephen Cartwright books. My love for children’s books must have been coming to life as I watched the consultants bring in their big displays of books and set them up downstairs in our family room. I probably paged through every single one. I don’t remember if I was allowed to sit through the actual party with the grown-ups, but the memory of those book parties has stuck with me for all these years.

Because of those parties, we had a fair share of Usborne books on our shelves as I grew up, and my mom saved most of them even after we kids were out of the house. This meant many of them were passed down to my girls and I had the joy of finding the duck hidden on the pages with my two little ones.

My girls listened to Usborne bedtime stories, practiced early reading with the phonics readers, and when we decided to move to Italy, I promptly purchased 1000 Words in Italian as I knew it was the perfect resource.

Now to be fair, I love SO many different children’s books – not only Usborne. Which is why you’ll see posts and reviews on books from a variety of publishers on this site. But there’s just something about Usborne. It holds a special place in my heart. Which is why I’ve finally decided to become a “book lady” myself. I know others will fall in love with these beautiful and educational books like I did so long ago and so I HAD to share them with others.
